Tim Rose
Recordings |
|
 |
Below are the albums I own or know about from
assorted sources. Some are still available in vinyl or CD format,
although access to them will depend on the country you are trying to
buy them in. Before his death, Tim was working at trying to buy back
the rights to all his material so that it could be re-released on
CD. The first two albums were re-released on a single CD in 1997 and
the next two (the Capitol and Playboy ones) were released, again on
a single CD, in August 1998. As for availability nowadays, you may
be more successful on the web than in local shops.
If you want information on how to get hold of CDs, take a look at
the
Record
Sellers/Values page for details of some links to Internet record
sellers - new and second-hand. You can also go to Tim's
official website,
where you can send for various CDs that Tim has made over the years.
If you want to try to get material on vinyl, the best way is through
second hand shops or record fairs, although his albums are becoming
collectors' items and are not cheap. Gemm recently listed one rare
album at £250. Because some tracks are completely unavailable on CD
(and probably never will be) I've uploaded them onto this website
for fans to download, in exchange for a
small donation to Tim's favourite charity, the NSPCC.
Meanwhile, here's a full list of what Tim has recorded over the
years, with production details, where available. Browse through this
section for an album you want, then click to view details or, in
certain cases, as indicated, go to Amazon for further information and the option
of buying the CD or downloading the MP3. I have broken down the listings
into sections: Original Studio Recordings, Live Albums, Combination Albums
(2-for-1), Compilations, Collaborations, Other Formats.

Tim
considered this to be a "pirate album" in that it was recorded
in 1970, but never released with his permission - and certainly
not with any royalties coming to him. The writer of the title
song, according to Tim, sold the master tape to the owner of
Tiger Lily Records and the album was released. The record
company owner was not a person to take to court for royalties,
it would seem - at least not if you wanted to retain your
kneecaps! The album is remarkably short - hardly value for money
in these days of 74 minute CDs.
My
sincere thanks to Juergen Wanda of Herne, Germany, for his help
in providing details of this album, including the cover, and to
Tim for filling in the background to its release. Before Tim's
death, he was able to obtain a copy of the songs and said he
planned to put them out, along with other material not yet on
CD, for sale at live performances. Sadly, that can no longer
happen.

Best of... Compilations |
One compilation is listed in M C Strong's discography book: I've
Gotta Get a Message to You (See For Miles, 1987). It doesn't
(and never did) exist. Tim told me that one was scheduled, but never
came to fruition. There is certainly a need for a compilation,
although, in these days of MP3 downloads, I suppose people can
pick-and-mix their own compilation, if they want. |
